This plenary session focused on how maternal health has viewed within the past, current and future urban setting. Panelists presented on various topics surrounding women in this urban setting, including: how urban landscapes change depending on a number of factors, how some cities hold the urban population within the downtown areas while others focus the population around the outskirts of the city, how transportation still effects ability to seek care much like rural settings, how economic tolls are different when considering ‘urban poor’, and how assets of urban persons differ from their rural counterparts. The moderator noted that people are moving more and more to urban settings, and thus this topic needs to be better investigated. The session began with an overview of the situation, panel presentations (including success, challenges and opportunities), a discussion and finally a Q+A session.
