Call for Submissions: Respectful Maternity Care Blog Series

Posted on

Today, the Maternal Health Task Force is marking International Women’s Day by reflecting on the many different voices, perspectives, and efforts that go in to advancing women’s rights and health. Earlier today, we published the final blog post in the WASH and Women’s Health guest post series coordinated by WASH Advocates. The series offered perspectives on the intersection of water and sanitation issues (WASH) and women’s health, underscoring the fundamental, practical challenges that must be overcome in order to ensure that women’s rights to health, safety and dignity.

Now, we are excited to announce a call for submissions for our upcoming series of guest blogs on respectful maternity care. This series will focus on promoting dignified care during pregnancy and childbirth, including the reduction of disrespectful and abusive practices in health care facilities. Inspired by the enthusiasm and support from the maternal health community during the Global Maternal Health Conference (GMHC2013) in Arusha, Tanzania, we are looking forward to featuring diverse perspectives and exploring new dimensions of this important issue.

We invite you to a share brief post with us in the coming weeks.

The blog series will feature posts that fall under the following themes: the roles of health systems and health care providers; advocacy, policy and human rights; how respectful care contributes to quality care; and community engagement.  Within these themes, we invite contributors to write a brief post (300-500 words) that highlights research, programs, policies or an individual story.

We are aiming to launch the series in late March, and will be accepting contributions beginning today, March 8 through March 24.

If you would like to contribute a brief post, or have questions of any kind, please contact: Sarah Blake at sblake@maternalhealthtaskforce.org
