Our colleagues at IDEAS are currently recruiting for a student intern:

IDEAS (Informed Decisions for Actions) aims to improve the health and survival of mothers and babies through generating evidence to inform policy and practice. Working in Ethiopia, North-Eastern Nigeria and the state of Uttar Pradesh in India, IDEAS uses measurement, learning and evaluation to find out what works, why and how in maternal and newborn health programmes. It is funded between 2010 and 2015 by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Student role on the project

Within IDEAS, students will have an opportunity to work with the Ethiopian Health Ministry on a literature review that identifies best practices in maternal and newborn health in developing countries. Students will also be involved in qualitative work relating to health systems.

Required qualifications and skills

This project would be a good match for students with basic understanding of epidemiologic and qualitative methods, and those with good writing skills. Furthermore, a strong interest in maternal and child health, developing countries and health systems would be preferred.

Final product or deliverable

As a final product students will have the opportunity to produce health policy summaries for the government. Additionally, students will prepare a report of their literature review and write a blog on their experience being placed with IDEAS.
