Convening as a maternal health community is key to improving awareness, knowledge, and our momentum to ensure health for women and their families. Three events from this week and next offer great opportunities for learning and collaboration. Thank you to the Wilson Center and MAMA for hosting such wonderful events! Coming up this Mobile Health Monday:

Early Considerations in M&E for MNCH Mobile Messaging Programs

Join the Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA) at their event, Early Considerations in M&E for MNCH Mobile Messaging Programs this Monday, August 4th at 10am EDT. Join in to hear from Nicolette Naidoo and Atik Ahsan, M&E specialists from MAMA’s country program teams in South Africa and Bangladesh.

Also in this session, Josie Mangxaba will discuss MAMA resources for designing M&E systems for mobile health technologies for maternal health. In addition, Radha Rajan, from Johns Hopkins University’s Global mHealth Initiative, will discuss various ways to conduct formative research to guide programmatic decisions early in mobile messaging implementation.

This event will be a great way to gain practical knowledge and skills for developing M&E systems and frameworks for mobile messaging projects. The event is free, but please RSVP.

Nutrition and the Continuum of Care: Pre-Conception to the Post-Natal Period

On Monday, July 28th experts convened to discuss the importance of nutrition through the life course to ensure optimal maternal and newborn health outcomes. Tune in to hear experts from Harvard Medical School, MCHIP, UNFPA, WFP, The Wilson Center, and ChildFund International discuss iron, zinc, and iodine deficiencies, malnutrition, and if current strategies are sufficient to ensure proper nutrition. Underage: Addressing Reproductive Health and HIV in Married Adolescents

In the developing world, there are 70 million girls under the age of 18 who are married. On Wednesday, July 30, experts gathered in Washington, DC at The Wilson Center to discuss current research and programming with married adolescent girls in the developing world. Representatives from USAID’s Office of HIV/AIDS, International Center for Research on Women, CARE, and Pathfinder International discussed their work from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, West Africa, and other low-resource settings. Click the link above to watch a recording of the event.
