Wilson Center Event | Reaching the Farthest Behind: Facility-Level Innovations in Maternal Health

Posted on September 7, 2017September 7, 2017

We are excited to announce the upcoming dialogue, “Reaching the Farthest Behind: Facility-Level Innovations in Maternal Health.” The event will take place at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. (and online!) on Thursday, 14 September 2017 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm EDT. This dialogue is part of the Maternal Health Task Force’s Advancing Dialogue on Maternal Health Series, in partnership with UNFPA and the Wilson Center.

Interested in attending or following along online? See the invitation from the Wilson Center below to learn more and register for the event.

Every day, more than 800 women die from mostly preventable pregnancy-related causes. Improving access to quality maternal health care services in remote areas and among rural and marginalized populations has been among the biggest challenges, calling for innovative solutions. With global emphasis on women giving birth with a skilled birth attendant, the role of functional facilities in reducing the number of maternal deaths worldwide is expanding. In order to have more women access these facilities for prenatal and postnatal care and deliveries, innovations within these facilities must attract women with assurances of better quality of care. As the global community moves towards the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal #3 to reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births, these innovations are paramount to meeting this ambitious goal.

Please join the Wilson Center, the United Nations Population Fund and the Maternal Health Task Force on 14 September for a discussion on current maternal health innovations being developed at the facility level and how they are shaping the landscape of maternal health today.
