Hormonal implants are proving to be increasingly popular among Tanzanian women, according to national-level service statistics at public-sector health facilities. The reasons for this popularity include the hormonal implant’s convenience, ease of insertion and long-lasting effectiveness. This brief describes EngenderHealth’s approach for supporting the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) in introducing and expanding access to long-acting and permanent methods of contraception (LA/PMs), focusing specifically on challenges and lessons learned related to hormonal implants.
