At the Integration of Maternal and Newborn Health Care technical meeting, Nosa Orobaton gave this presentation for Nafisatu Omar, who couldn’t attend the meeting. Orobaton gave a “reality check” on the challenges facing providers of maternal and newborn health care. Omar’s presentation drew on her work as a practicing nurse/midwife in Bauchi State, Nigeria, including experiences with training and education for nurse/midwives; social and cultural barriers to care seeking; malaria and anemia in pregnancy and practicing in settings with high MMR and TFR.
