While maternal mortality has decreased by 45% around the world since 1990, it has more than doubled in the United States. The U.S. maternal mortality ratio is 65th in the world, but what’s worse is African American women face three to four times the risk of dying due to pregnancy and childbirth compared to their white counterparts.
