The Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF), with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has teamed up with The Aga Khan University in Kenya and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) in Spain to host an annual week-long workshop called the Safe Mothers and Newborns Leadership Workshop. The goal of the workshop is to increase the capacity and leadership skills of current and emerging leaders in the field of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health from high burden countries. With new technical knowledge, tangible leadership skills and a network of peers, the workshop participants return to their work poised to work more effectively on reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths. The first Safe Mothers and Newborns Leadership Workshop was held in Barcelona, Spain in 2015, the second was held in Boston, United States in 2016 and the third was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2017.
