There has been little research to date examining the quality of antenatal care in Nigeria, particularly from the perspectives of pregnant women and providers. In order to fill this knowledge gap, the Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) supported a research project in North-Central Nigeria that sought to understand local beliefs and experiences regarding the adequacy of antenatal care. In partnership with the Institute of Human Virology, the research team, led by Till Baernighausen, administered a household survey and conducted interviews with antenatal care providers, pregnant women who received antenatal care and village chiefs.

The resulting publications from this study are forthcoming. In the meantime, learn more about the importance of antenatal care on the MHTF website.
