A Mumbai-based non-profit, Society for Nutrition, Education & Health Action (SNEHA) believes in heavily investing in women and children’s health is essential to building viable, urban communities. SNEHA targets four large areas of public health: maternal and newborn health, child health and nutrition, adolescent health and sexuality education and prevention of violence against women and children. SNEHA adopts a life-cycle based approach to address maternal and child health and a two-pronged strategy: it works with communities to improve care-seeking behaviour and health knowledge as well as with public health systems to improve service delivery and quality of care. SNEHA targets vulnerable communities in informal urban settlements and particularly women and children living in these communities.
